I’m not a huge fan of new year’s resolutions. Don’t get me wrong, I have set MANY of them over the years, but learned as a working mom and business owner with three kids, that life has a sneaky (or actually a really in your face) way of finding a way to de-rail best intentions. I don’t love the idea of starting the year setting myself up for failure so instead, I’ve decided to pick a word to help define my year.
Choosing a word means I have a north star to aid in my decisions (in all aspects of my life) to ensure what I am doing is in alignment with how I want my year to go. While I didn’t formally pick a word in 2024, my focus was definitely on gratitude. By intentionally choosing to focus on gratitude this year, it helped me open my eyes to just how good I’ve got it. My family goes around the table every night we are able to sit and eat together to do “thankful fors” and name three things we are thankful for today. I also remember so many moments this year just tearing up (and sometimes sobbing) because I was just overwhelmed with gratitude by the incredible people who I have in my network. I am surrounded by amazing people (mostly strong women, let’s be honest) at work, in my friend circle, at my gym and in my travel business and I really took time to soak that in this year. While I will continue my focus on gratitude in 2025, my word is different this year.
This year I will be BOLD. Dictionary.com defines Bold adjective as: (of a person, action, or idea) showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous. As a fairly risk adverse person (I mean my job I get paid to do corporate america is managing risk), it’s not always easy to to be bold. What I have learned as I get older (I’m looking at you 40th birthday this year…) is that life is going FAST, and I don’t want to live with any regrets. I was always told by people older and wiser than me “just you wait it will go by in the blink of an eye,” and my goodness do I now see that first hand. I swear I was just graduating college and getting married last week and somehow I just hit my 19th wedding anniversary and have a 12, 8 and 6 year old.
So my promise to myself this year is to be BOLD in all areas of my life. I will be confident in who I am and the value I bring as a wife and mom and employee and business owner, I will be courageous and try new things, and I will take risks because I don’t want to ever look back and say “I wish I would have….(insert thing here.”)
My challenge to you is to do the same! Have you been wanting to ask for a raise or apply for a promotion or new job – DO IT! Have you wanted to take a bucket list trip to (insert destination) DO IT! Have you been wanting to run a marathon – DO IT! Have you been wanting to join an adult hip hop dance class (wait, is that only my wish?!) – DO IT! BE BOLD in 2025!!
Tell me, what is your word for 2025?
