The Top 5 Things to Do the Week Before Your Trip (So You Can Actually Relax on Vacation)

We’ve booked the flights, reserved the room with the dreamy view, and even picked out matching outfits for your family (or at least mentally, while folding laundry). But now it’s go-time—your vacation is just a week away, and you’re starting to feel like you need a vacation from getting ready for vacation.

I got you.

Here are the top 5 things I always recommend my clients do the week before travel to avoid last-minute chaos and actually start your trip feeling rested, not frazzled.

1. Download, Print & Backup Your Travel Docs

Even if you’re team “I’ve got it all in my email,” trust me on this—things happen. Wi-Fi is spotty, apps glitch, and screenshots get buried in your camera roll behind 47 photos of your dog.
✅ Pro tip: Use the Trip Plans App I provide for clients—everything in one place, plus a hard copy backup in your carry-on, just in case.

2. Handle the Home Front

Nothing kills the post-vacation glow faster than returning to a fridge full of mystery leftovers and no clean underwear.
✅ Do a quick fridge purge.
✅ Run a load (or three) of laundry.
✅ Set up mail holds or dog walkers/sitters.
✅ Bonus: Order groceries for delivery the day you get home. You’ll thank yourself later.

3. Prep Your Wardrobe (and the Kids’)

No one wants to be panic-buying swimsuits at Target the night before a 7 AM flight.
✅ Lay out outfits for each day (yes, even for yourself!)
✅ Make a list of must-haves—chargers, sunscreen, meds, books, your go-to black jumpsuit that makes you feel like a goddess.
✅ Do a final try-on session if you’re not 100% sure the clothes still fit. (We’ve all been there.)

4. Check Travel Requirements & Final Details

Even if I’ve done all the planning for you (which, let’s be real—you deserve), it’s good to do a final pass.
✅ Confirm flight times and airport terminal info.
✅ Double-check passport expiration dates.
✅ Review weather forecasts and adjust your packing list.
✅ Make sure you have currency if needed, or prep your travel card.

5. Clear Your Calendar the Day Before Departure

This is my holy grail tip. Don’t work until 5 PM and then try to pack, cook, clean, and get the kids to bed before a 6 AM flight.
✅ If possible, take the day off before your trip.
✅ Use it to wrap up work, pack without pressure, and sneak in a mani or massage (or both—yes please).
✅ Give yourself the breathing room you always give everyone else.

Here’s the bottom line: You deserve a trip where you feel present, not panicked. Prepared, not burnt out. The more you take care of future you this week, the more you’ll enjoy every second of that trip you’ve worked so hard for.

Need help making your next getaway truly stress-free? That’s where I come in. I handle the details so you can show up, check in, and soak it all in—margarita or wine in hand.
