Our Epic Iceland Family Adventure: Waterfalls, Volcanoes, and Wonder

We just returned from an unforgettable week in Iceland, and I couldn’t wait to share all the highlights with you! From misty waterfalls to volcanic islands, every day brought a new kind of wonder. Iceland was the absolute most beautiful place I have ever seen. As we drove to see different areas and sites each day you would feel like you were on 5 different planets in a matter of two hours. From mountains to plains to beaches to moss covered rocks, Iceland brought ALL the beauty. Here’s a glimpse into the magic we experienced as a family.

Day 1: Waterfall Wonders We kicked off our adventure chasing waterfalls on our drive to Vik. The sheer force and beauty of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss set the tone for the week.

Day 2: Island Hopping and Puffin Spotting We set sail to the Westmann Islands and were rewarded with dramatic coastal views and the excitement of puffin sightings. A mix of natural beauty and quirky charm made this island visit unforgettable.

Day 3: Ice and Adventure Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon was like stepping into a fantasy—icebergs drifting in crystal waters, followed by the sparkle of Diamond Beach. A peaceful hike in Skaftafell offered a perfect contrast to the icy scenes.

Day 4: Black Sand and Playful Moments We explored Vik’s dramatic black sand beaches and towering cliffs. This was one of the coolest, most beautiful places I’ve ever seen! The black rocks on the beach were begging for me to take them home for a centerpiece.

Day 5: Ponies and Powerhouses of Nature Meeting Icelandic ponies was a definite crowd-pleaser, followed by a whirlwind tour through the Golden Circle. Waterfalls, geysers, and tectonic wonders!

Day 6: Soak, Stroll, Savor Our last day was pure bliss. A relaxed morning in Reykjavik, a rejuvenating soak in the Blue Lagoon, and an Icelandic dinner (including a lost wallet but that is a story for another day!)

Wrap-Up: From icy landscapes to steamy hot springs, Iceland delivered awe at every turn. But more than the sights, it was the shared moments—with family, with new friends—that made this trip unforgettable.
