Loisaba: The Safari Camp That Knows You Need a Nap First, Then the Wildlife

Let’s get one thing straight: not every safari stop has to be go-go-go from sunrise to sundown. At Loisaba Conservancy, I discovered something I didn’t know I needed from a luxury safari camp: permission to slow all the way down.

Sure, Kenya is bursting with wild adventures, but Loisaba invited me to hit pause—and let me tell you, I leaned way into it. After twice a day game drives sitting in a jeep, a break was welcomed and needed. I definitely recommend breaking up camps with variety as there is a lot of sitting on safari!

This Is the Safari Sweet Spot for Rest and Awe

Tucked into the rolling hills of northern Kenya, Loisaba Tented Camp delivers the kind of “wow” factor that makes your jaw drop… and stay there. Think uninterrupted views of Mount Kenya, sweeping savannah sunsets, and an infinity pool that makes you question every life choice that doesn’t involve soaking with a view.

And yes, while the wildlife isn’t as dense here as in the Maasai Mara or Serengeti, you’ll still catch glimpses of elephants meandering in the distance or a graceful giraffe striding past your tent. But Loisaba isn’t just about what you see—it’s about how you feel.

Your Daily Schedule: In-room Spa. Sundowner. Siesta.

The vibe here? Soft luxury. Quiet elegance. Deep exhale.

Each tented suite is ridiculously gorgeous, with floor-to-ceiling views and the kind of bed that hugs you back. Morning coffee on your private veranda as the sun climbs over the Laikipia landscape is a moment you’ll want to bottle. And if you’re someone who’s always “on,” this is where you finally turn “off.”

Between game drives, I lingered over long lunches, curled up with a book I never get to finish at home, and let myself just be. It was soul-soothing.

A Safari with a Purpose: Meet the Bloodhounds

One of the most unexpected highlights? Meeting Loisaba’s elite anti-poaching team—and yes, that includes bloodhounds. These dogs aren’t just adorable (though they are); they’re incredibly skilled at tracking scents and play a crucial role in protecting the conservancy’s wildlife.

Guests have the unique opportunity to visit the canine unit, learn how the dogs are trained, and even watch them in action. It’s not every day you get to witness conservation efforts this up-close—or cheer on a floppy-eared hero as he follows a scent trail like a pro.

It’s an experience that connects you to the land in a deeper way and reminds you that luxury and purpose can go hand in hand.

For the Traveler Who’s Doing It All—This Is the Place to Do Nothing

My clients—moms, partners, powerhouses—are used to juggling it all. Loisaba is the answer to that quiet craving you have to be taken care of for once. No logistics. No emails. Just you, a perfectly mixed gin & tonic, and an endless horizon.

Whether you pair it with a more active safari leg or want a gentle intro into Kenya’s magic, Loisaba is the place to catch your breath—without giving up the magic of the wild.
